"I'm sure there are more than a few members of the board that would rather have the money going somewhere else..."

"Oh yes, many would rather we spent no money on anything that actually goes back to the people," his response quick this time. "Those people wouldn't do anything for the city if it wasn't required to get them elected."

He paused for a second, considering the meaning of what he was about to say.
"Those are the people I am going to extreme lengths to have removed from their positions," his face stern and honest as he spoke.

He took a sip from his Black Blood. The muddy-black colored drink made from a mix of Black Label and several other types of drinks he had no mind to memorize screamed as it went down. It felt phenomenal, exactly what he'd wanted after a day like today. He never had enough to get intoxicated or even tipsy, he always had just enough to remind himself that there are good things left in the world to spend one's money on.
Fire tide drinks as usual... he mused.

"So where does the night leave you this fine evening? Anything of interest happen today or business as usual?"

"Ah business as usual..." Alexi responded with a grin.
"The 'night' just started...suns not even all down yet...business will pick up and then die off...." he mused over taking another sip, decided for it, brought the drink to his lips and sighed. "Same old same old..." He took a quick swig and exhaled.

"So..." Alexi replied to his comrades previous statement.
"...planing on giving some people the boot?" he chuckled, deep and rich.
"Perhaps you should appoint me Senior Chief of Alcohol and Liquors eh Spencer?"
He swirled his glass.
"But honestly..." he continued.
"I think that would do some good...there needs to be a change of pace in the higher branches from what I've been told."

"Perhaps you should appoint me Senior Chief of Alcohol and Liquors eh Spencer?"

"Hah, yes, now that would be grand. I'd appoint you to practically any job if I could. I'd much rather someone that'd actually care about the city and its people than one who can run a successful campaign and has a degree in communications." He took a sip from his drink again, relishing in the intricacies of its different tastes.

"And yes, it certainly would do the city some good to see that kind of change. Finally being in the position to make a difference in that kind of thing, I'm going to take absolute advantage of it." Spencer glanced around at the other people in the bar, looking them over and trying to gauge who they are and what they do. Try as he might, though, his eyes always seemed to drift to the walls and the different antique articles present upon them.

Her back to a tree, Alice crouched low, taking in her surroundings. She was in a forest. The sun was high on her left, shining down through the trees. It was hammering down on her, the heat a physical pressure on her back. A clearing was to her right, bright and empty. Further down the gloom of the forest stretched on and on, seemingly limitless. She was sweaty and nervous, trying not to make much noise. Her head was pounding from the glare of the sun and her eyes never stopped moving. She was being hunted by three armed men, and she was alone.

She sat against the tree for a while, catching her breath, biding her time. She knew the three men were nearby. Knew they were hunting together. She waited a while longer and ran toward a nearby rock, because it would serve as better cover. She was tall, but slim. Healthy and athletic. She could crouch down for ages, no problem at all. A while after reaching the rock, she looked out and down. She was on a slope overlooking the clearing, scanning west. After a minute or two she spotted the three men that were after her. They were moving slowly. They were maybe ten yards out, shifting their heads left and right rhythmically. A bad tactic, she thought. Every time they turned left, the bright sun would be right there, ruining their search. They were blind. No way they'd see her. She was in camouflage fatigues and perfectly still, making no noise at all.

Alice waited until she could hear the rattle of the shale as they moved along. Lined her gun up on them. The front sight was on the leftmost hunter, and her weight was against the rock. She practiced the order she'd shoot them in, left to right. The slight sweep, steady and persistent. She rehearsed the order, paused a beat, and fired on the first man.

His chest exploded, spouting out a cloud of bright red mist. Alice swept the gun toward her second target, quick and steady, and fired. Same thing. He hadn't had time to react. But the third guy did react. He'd jumped into the nearby trees before Alice could turn her aim on him, and he'd fired twice as she crouched below the rock. The shots were both off by about twenty feet. Nowhere near her. She heard them smashing into the trees and saw leaves float down angrily. The guy dived out of the trees, rushing towards her. He was either very brave or very stupid. Clearly he meant to scare her. His gun was up and he was firing at the trees around her. Alice paused a beat. Laid down on her side and straightened herself out. Came out at the base of the rock, on the left. Saw the guy charging at her and fired once. She smiled as he went down. Paused a beat. Then she stood up and whistled, the shrill sound carrying through the forest.

"All right, guys! Game's over! Come on out for a roll call."
The three men she'd just shot stood up and glared at her, disgruntled. A slow stream of people came trickling out of the forest at random intervals; seven of them sported matching small square patches of blue, about three inches wide and three long, on the left breast of their fatigues. A similar patch was on their back, on the lower right side. Nine others present had the same in red, front and back. All but Alice had sprays of red or blue paint on them, mostly chest and back shots. Alice herself was sporting the red patch. The three fellows that had been recently taken out all wore the blue, and all had a large splattering of red paint on their chest.

"Hell of a match, guys. Well played, one and all. It was a close deal at the end there, but I warned ya - this is my course. My team and I aren't about to lose on our home turf!" The red team erupted with cheers and raucous laughter, every one of them grinning proudly.

One of the three men she'd just shot came forward, holding a hand up to his chest. "You said it, Alice. Didn't know you could shoot, truth be told. That come with your degree in Gardening, girl?" He was chiding at her in good humor, and she laughed along with everyone else.

"It's Landscaping, John. Not Gardening. The shooting came with the job, though. Only natural that a manager at a paintball course knows how to hang with the best, the way I see it. The time off I get to put some color on your pale asses is just icing on the cake!" She retorted, jokingly. The banter went on for a while, both teams in high spirits and good humors. After everyone began to part ways, one of Alice's friends, David, asked "You going home, Alice? A few of us were going to catch a movie. Maybe horror, maybe comedy. We haven't decided. You in?"

Alice shook her head and smiled. "No thanks, Dave," she replied. "I'm not feeling up to a movie right now. I'm going out for a drink or two, I think." Her friend nodded, frowning. Then he perked up and asked "Sounds good. Maybe we'll catch up to you later. Got a place in mind?"

"The Eagle."

Alice drove home and stripped, stepping into the shower. The water was cool and refreshing, a welcome change from the heat of the day. She stepped out and got ready to leave again. Chose a yellow sleeveless dress and tan penny loafers as her attire. She stepped out of her apartment and headed for her car. The sun was now low in the sky, casting shadows across the town as she walked. She drove quickly and arrived in no time at all. Alice turned back before stepping through the door, staring at the dying sun for a minute before going into the bar.

"True enough." Alexi spoke into his glass before finishing the spirit.
He followed his friends gaze to the people milling around in the bar. Some of them were good people, getting drinks in the cool hours of the dying light of day before moving on with life again come night fall. Others were arriving planning on getting so hammered they couldn't walk straight when they left. A scant few looked as though they were drowning their sorrows in the glass they held with both hands. Alexi could sympathize with that...not so many years ago that's what he was doing.
As his gaze went around he caught Tyler, the antique shop owner, at a table. Alexi had purchased quite a few things over the past few months from there to round out some of the more private rooms in an authentic feel. A flash of yellow caught his eye at the door and Alexi figured it could only be one of three people. He glanced at his watch and noted the time, knowing for sure that Alice must be walking through the door with such an eye catching color in the muted den of deep reds and abyssal blacks.

"Well, I could go for some of Thomas's infamous loaded fries..." he stated as he set the empty glass back on the table.
"Get anything for you comrade?" he asked, half standing out of the booth seat.

"Get anything for you comrade?"

He considered it for a moment and checked his watch before responding.
"Hrm.. As a matter of fact, I personally am feeling something spicy. Tell Thomas to do his worst with the homemade salsa!" He grinned, knowing well that Thomas could pack quite a punch with his spices if he so desired it.

He had roughly a half an hour left before he had to go grocery shopping. If he stayed for too long, his wife would text message him. It's one thing to visit a friend at his bar, it's another to spend several hours there without telling your spouse. He knew her better than she thought, he knew how far he could push it before getting the couch for the night. He smiled, mulling over just how much he loved her despite her being so demanding at times.

He folded his hands behind his head and leaned back, looking up at the ceiling in relaxation.

"Get anything for you comrade?"

Although the question hadn't been directed at Tyler, it still drew his attention and he turned his head towards the direction the sound came from. He recognized the voice and seeing the man confirmed it. He didn't know the man's name or really anything about him, but he had come into the shop quite frequently and bought a number of somewhat pricey items; they never went along any real type of theme, just seemed to be whatever happened to catch his eye on that particular day.

Tyler didn't recognize the other sitting at that table and they seemed to be involved in their own conversation so Tyler simply returned to his own business. He sat there feeling somewhat foolish, as he was waiting for a waitress server to approach him and ask for his order, but he realized he hadn't actually seen one and wondered if he actually had to go up to the bar himself.

He was used to feeling a bit awkward as he was somewhat, in a social sense. Rising up from his seat, he removed his coat and placed it around the back of his chair, staking claim to the table so that no one took it while he ent to place his order. Tyler walked up to the bar, squinting to make out the words of the bottles behind the counter as he had accidentally left his glasses in his coat pocket and he was already at the bar so he didn't see the point of going back to get them.

The streetlights begin to flicker and David is walking through the district with a headache. He thought it was just one phone call, how bad could it get? Pretty bad. He massages one of his temples with one hand while holding his groceries with the other. The migraine is back and he didn't have anything on him to ease the pain. He looks through the street and nothing reached out to him besides a bar that particular stood out from the rest of the city's building aesthetics.

He chuckles to himself at the thought of going back into bars and swooning towards the drink again. He walked towards the door and realizes that this bar isn't your average one. Probably one of those above-par classy places. Oh well, he shrugs and swings the door open and finds the place more populated than he figured.

He goes back outside for a quick two seconds and walks back in.
"The Iron Eagle. Sounds like a solid place to me." He takes two steps forward, looking for a seat.
He finds a table closer to the door and places his groceries next to his side. "This place better have something that can put a kick in my head."

Alexi slapped the bar as he passed it, throwing a wave to Alice as she entered.
Entering the kitchen the bar owner didn't flinch from the heat, moving in an intricate dance out of the bob and weave of passing service men or under chefs. Thomas was barking orders left and right, looked up at Alexi with a scowl for a moment before he realized who it was, then beamed and chuckled.
"Ah my good Alexi..." he began with a grin.
"...let me guess...His Honor is in and you want loaded fries..."
Alexi nodded and leaned against the white wall for a moment, gesturing for Thomas to continue his game.
"Well...if he got the M&M cake last time...then I suspect it will be a double hot mix of salsa and chips."
Alexi just shook his head and clapped.
"Make it as hot as you dare..." he stated before leaving the kitchen with Thomas's laughter ringing in his ears.

Another fifty bucks in the pot... Alexi thought to himself.
He entered the bar area once more and stood out of the line of traffic flow.
His gaze brought him 'round to Alice and he waved her over.

He leaned back as Alexi walked into the bar and vanished from sight. It seemed as though he spent too much time looking around this place every time he came here, and that was probably true, but it never ceased to amaze him. It really did feel like he had been born during the wrong decade.

He pulled out his cell phone and clicked around on it for a bit. His schedule was relatively packed the coming day with meetings. He had to talk to the local electric supplier about their raising the prices of their services for no real good reason. They thought it was okay to just raise prices in a down market, even if they weren't even worried about the economy! He would show them one for, it's not like he couldn't wire electricity from a further away plant for cheaper considering the new prices...

He waited patiently for Alexi to return, knowing well that it wouldn't be long before his dish was ready and Alexi back to the bar level to chatter amongst his crew and friends.

Alice stood near the door for a bit, past the cigarette machine but still not far enough in to be able to see too many people. Or be seen. The ventilation was running, pumping out recycled air like nobody's business, but she could still smell the stink of beer and fumes and assorted fragrances mixed together. Despite that the place had an immediate effect, a sort of welcoming ambiance. Like she'd only stepped out for five minutes, despite all the days since her last visit. Felt like everything was exactly the same as last time. It always did.

There were people walking past her, new arrivals, taking up stools or milling around the bar aimlessly. She suddenly felt awkward, standing there. She was doing nothing but taking up room. She saw Alexi motioning for her to come in and walked towards him, smiling and waving at the bartender, Angela, as she strode across the bar. Got about four feet from him and stopped, taking a quick look around the bar to see if she could find any of her other friends. Looked up at Alexi. His smile was lazy, his short black hair tousled. She smiled and said "Hey, Alexi. What are you so happy about?"

"Hey, Alexi. What are you so happy about?"
Alexi shrugged.
"You know seeing you always makes my day brighter Alice." he began. "You're one of my best and most frequent customers." He let his eyes linger a bit, a moment in thought, before standing up straight and pointing to the booth he was returning to.
"Want to join us? It's just me and Spencer catching up on old times. I can have drinks and a bite to eat brought over for you if you want." He gazed around the bar not spotting any of Alice's usual hangers on anywhere.
"At least until the rest of your hunting pack gets in."

"Um..excuse me?"

Tyler stuck his hand up motioning towards the bartender at the other end of the bar. She was leaning against the counter talking to another customer, but upon his inquiry she turned her head and walked over to him.

"I'll have a sazerac, whiskey instead of brandy."

The bartender looked somewhat annoyed having been called away from her regulars, especially for Tyler. He wasn't really a 'desireable' man and not much for extensive conversation either, so he expected her to immedietly return to her previous customer, but instead she lingered there a bit after giving him his drink. When she finally did go about her business Tyler turned around, leaning on the counter and drinking rather than returning to his seat.

"Spencer? You mean the mayor? I didn't think he'd come in to a place like this. Everything here looks like it was state of the art way back when man first landed on the moon." Alice said, grinning mischievously. "I thought political types made a point of being seen as modernized." She looked in the direction Alexi was pointing and saw a face she instantly recognized but had only seen in the news. No doubt at all it was him, though she'd been skeptical when Alexi first told her he was a friend and a regular.

"But sure, I'll join you. I hear he's a nice enough guy."

Alexi chuckled at her remark about political types, almost entirely agreeing with her for the most part.
"...sure, I'll join you..."
"Ah, excellent. You'll like him." he responded with a wry grin.
Alexi was delighted that she would be joining them and led the way to the booth, gently brushing past customers and sliding into his seat. "Spence..." he began, motioning toward Alice. "...this is Alice, she's a regular here." He turned to Alice with a smile, "Alice...this is Spencer..." he chuckled again. "...but I'm sure you've seen him before." He leaned back, catching the eye of Angela as she glanced in his direction, waving her over before returning himself to the opening conversation.

"So my friends, I have loaded fries and a Death Valley salsa on order. Drinks?" he ventured with open hands as Angela was making her way to the booth. He liked to make things easy on the tenders, they had enough on nights like this to contend with anyway.
