It was an arduous battle.
Days of fighting outnumbered the days of absolute silence.
Still...I wonder if this is true victory...or the last, the greatest, trick it has ever pulled...

The Ramblings: Bedlam

Post by Kaome Sky Deathand » Sat Apr 04, 2009 11:30 pm

He was awake before the asylum was. I was awake too...
Nothing new really, though one could argue the asylum never slept. The air was cold, had a slightly metallic taste to it. So still, so very still in these dark hours of the morn. He sat on the floor, his back against the wall, right boot on the floor flat, knee bent, left leg stretched out. His left hand twitched next to the knee cap, his right elbow complained and popped as he stretched it from its resting place upon his right knee. So bored...he took this all in, how he sat, how he moved. He studied his hands, as if he had never seen them before. He took in the details...the whirls and swirls of his fingers, the grime under his nails, the scars and burn marks from a previous life.

He heard the lights snap on down the hall. I heard them as well...
Like great footsteps. Slow at first...the distance being so great, then faster, faster flick flick flick flick Light danced in from the small slit in his door. He counted to five slowly, very slowly. Like clockwork, down the hall came the sound of a metal baton on the walls and the thump thump of military cut boots...the same kind he himself wore. As the sound of screams and the grumbling and mumbling of mountains reached him, he slowly stood up, taking his time, stretching his muscles. They were almost upon him now...

BANG BANG "Inmate #11365; Jax..."
His cellmate next door.
She hissed in response, the girl it seemed was quite out of her mind...so aggressive, almost ...feral, like a cornered tiger... as if she wasn't human anymore. She didn't even have a last name. Poor girl. They were making lewd comments to her...kitty kitty kitty...or maybe just one was. They should know better. He swung the left side of his body forward and faced the door. They were coming to check on him now. Any moment...any little slant second...

BANG BANG "Inmate #52663; Vincent 'The Scythe' Sejanus..."
The snickered...or maybe just one did. Ah, fresh meat... It was very rude. "..anus..." Vincent shook his head then closed his eyes. The hatch slid back. "Hey, shithead...you awake?" Vincent lunged at the door, slamming his 'ironclad' head against the door and threw open his eyes. The man stumbled and fell, grasping for his baton. The older grunt, a veteran, he just stood there looking at the fool on the floor, glanced to Vincent and shrugged.
"Ought not to talk to a lady like that ...friend... friend. Especially not Jax...why she'd be way more than a runt like you could handle..."
"Back off Vincent...away from the door." came the slightly amused veterans voice.
Vincent shrugged and backed off from the door.
"Early parole for my good behavior?" he asked with a grin...not that anyone could see it.
"Hardly. The new doc wants to see you."
"Wonderful..." Vincent replied. "Mask on of course..."
The veteran eyed him through the slit. "You know the routine Vince...only during showers and chow..."

- - -

"I see..." The Doc muttered.
You most certainly do not you pompous ass...
"Is that so Doc? Well good...that's progress right?"
The doctor, the head shrink, the prick...he looked over at Vince.
"Tell me about Grim...the man you know..."
Vincent chuckled.
"Tell me where he lives..."
"Me Doc? I live in the weak and the wounded..."

The edge had been dulled.
So much time lost...that same time had taken it's toll on the blade.
It had eaten away at it, pitted it, scarred it, blemished it.
Once, if they had crossed, the blade would have cut God, now...
Now the blade could not cut wet paper.

The Anthem took it up.
It still had balance, it still held a shine, it's wrapping was still taunt, but the edge....
Slowly, reverently, the Anthem laid the blade back down.
Maybe later...maybe another day...for now the Anthem respected the awen of the weapon.
It was a weapon after all, it could be no less...
Damned to be no more.

The Ramblings: A Journey

Post by Kaome Sky Deathand » Wed Apr 08, 2009 1:00 am

It has been a very very long time since I have sat and thought about it.
Way back then..so very long ago...

I was a Lucifer Black.
Elite. Cutting Edge. Faceless.
I fought against the Emperor when he was just a man.

Then I became a Custodes.
Inner Circle. Ancient Ceremony. Unrelenting Blood Games.
I raised a hand to the Emperor, for that was my purpose.

The galaxy burned.

I joined the Legions as an Iron Warrior.
Cunning. Talented. Bitter and Twisted.
I tore down the walls that I had once protected.

Ages passed, but time held no real meaning.
For I had returned home...in a sense...

I grew bored...the Crusades were bogging down.
I traveled outward.

I was a powerful Machine-Man in the Inquisition.
Harder. Better. Faster. Stronger.
I collected technology lost ages ago for my own ends by any means.

I became a Vessorine Janissary.
Elite of the Elite. Clansire. Mercenary.
I would follow any faith, provided that faith was stamped with High Denomination Coinage.

I was a Servitor...trying something new.
Big. Strong. Dumb.
I had trouble remembering which way was up sometimes.

Having tasted so many things I returned to my roots.

I am an Incunabula, a Proto-Deamon.
I am a thing that has tasted stars, dwelt in a hundred halls, a hundred hundred kings saluted me.
I was formed in a time when the Ruinous Powers where but three and merely children at that.
I will linger now...as my true self I think...and wait to be fed by foolish hands...to walk as men walk once more...

Shink Shink Shink
I blew against the steel, watching as a small cloud of metallic dust drifted off the edge of the blade. I held it toward the weak light of the false sanctuary I had myself holed up in, watching the blade gleam. I flipped it over and began the process again.
Shink Shink Shink
People, other people that is, could never figure out why I kept the machete when there were so many guns around. Sure I had me a nine-sidearm and a nice twelve-gauge pump, but I never had to reload the machete. I didn't have to pull it apart to clean it or switch out because it got hot. Everyone I've seen with a 'Rock-N-Roll' weapon had only gone down...just to get up again.
Shink Shink Shink
I pause, my left eye is twitching, slight headache. I wipe a trickle of sweat and my hand comes back red. I'm crying blood from my eye again. I take out a clean cloth and dab at the blood running down my face. This is a sure sign of infection, but I haven't changed. The others don't know about it yet...God help me if they do.

I don't care if they live or die...only that they kill as many as they can before the end.
Shink Shink Shink
Cold today...they will be a little slower.
Shink Shink Shink
God what I'd give for some pancakes right now...
Shink Shink Shink

It just never ends...
I keep going up this damn hill...up and up.
I get to some point and BAM down to the bottom again.
Someone picks me up so I keep going...up the hill..up the god forsaken hill.
I keep falling and people keep picking me up even when all I want to do is sit down.
I don't care what's at the top of this hill...not anymore...I just don't care.
For one minute I'd like to sit down and not have to worry about moving forward or falling back.
Damn this hill...and damn you all for making me climb it.

When I remake the world it will be flat.

The night is coming...
The sun doth fall...
The land is sleeping...
I see them all...

The Sirens singing...
As I stand tall...
Throwing my body...
Against the wall...

I share the gift...
Of death's dark shawl...
Of the shadows boon...
And the blood moons call...

I can hear the floorboards above me creak...
Voices in the darkness...
A small and brittle light from underneath an unsteady hand.
The door knob is turning ever so slowly.
I await them in the silence and shadows...two friends that have never let me down.
They are cautious but speed is of the essence...they are excited about nabbing me.
Drums in the dark...footsteps on the stairs...

They're coming...

Nightmares and Dreamscapes (2)

Post by Kaome Sky Deathand » Fri Jun 19, 2009 1:54 pm

"It was my fault...not his."
She turned to look back at me again. The fire and fury that had fueled her only moments ago took a back seat, the new driver a mix of feelings she wasn't quite sure what to do with. My body flinched, desiring that which it would never have. I don't hit women...no exceptions. My face still stung with the impact of her open hand, my eyes turning the world in shades of red, my ears were still ringing with the scorn and disgust that rippled off her every word. She had spoken with true intent and I was the focus of her wrath. Only now did her perfect retribution crumble into dust....

"Tch.." I muttered before leaving by the front door of my beach house.
She called after me, but I didn't respond.
Dusk sat there at the dinner bench, playing a game of Checkers? Chess? across from a faceless pre-teen that more than likely represented my sister. He took a piece in his hand and spoke very plainly.
"Well you've done it now haven't you?"

The wind was a gift, cooling the intense heat that rolled off of me in waves.
I crossed the stone ward and headed to the beach. The sun was setting? rising? as I sat in the packed sand of the waters edge. I vented my anger and frustration into the sea...a storm gathered off the coast of the floating island out in the ocean. Clouds rumbled and purple lightning flashed beneath the gray mists.
I could hear her footsteps. My right fingers danced on the oceans edge drawing patterns of such intricate design that the water dared not wash them away till I ran a streak through them. Only to start again, runes within runes, lines in lines, a myriad of symbols that meant the construction of a universe...and absolutely nothing at all.
She stood behind me now.

"Why do you draw them?" she asked
Not even a sorry, not even a timid voice. Business as usual.
"Calypso was a heathen goddess of the sea..." I began. She took a seat next to me, turning to look at my face.
I kept my gaze out to the water...the storm on the horizon.
"..she was wild, and as changing as the ocean itself. Fickle, dominating, made to break or to be broken upon."
She too looked at the storm, now subsiding as fast as my anger flowed out from me. I wiped away the design, the water cleansing it from view. I placed my right hand over the center of my chest.

"You may not think much of it..." I said.
"..and I agree it is not much to look at..." I placed my hand in hers, passing along the gift inside.
"...but you will always have my heart Calypso." I stood, turning away from her, heading back up the path to the house.
She opened her hand, a smooth black stone, tarnished, jagged on one edge, fractured.
I left her there in misery.

I'm sorry.
It doesn't get any better...no matter how many times I say it.
No matter what I wish...no matter what I do...no matter how I squirm...there is nothing I can do to stop it.
I'm not strong enough, not skilled enough, not rich enough, not powerful enough...to stop it.
I am forced to sit and watch and be able to do nothing.

I'm sitting here in a room.
Smooth wood floors and nice cream walls. A high ceiling, wood as well.
It's not my house, but it is home.

I sit in a plain wooden chair.
Across from me is a plain oak table. Small. About the size of a dinner plate.
Upon it, a fine bronze candle holder..and a candle...a white candle burning.
Ah...it once burnt so very calm and serene...the whole room would light up.
Now it seems so low, so very very dim.
I can't do anything about it.

That candle is going to die out and I can't do a god damned thing about it.
The room grows dark...my vision dims...I turn my head away, unable to watch.
I'm crying in the rising dark...the room echoes back my feeble wet sobs.
The candle sputters now...

Why must we suffer so....

"Stop them."
"Your will be done..."
He stood alone as his master escaped in the starship.
Although formidable, his master was not the type to take chances...not with seven Knights of the Old Republic hounding him for all they were worth. The seven emerged, running at full tilt, only to slow and stop as the stood before him. He counted eight...which means someone...ah...the traitorous whench...he would kill her last.

You die last... he whispered into her mind.
She chuckled out loud.

They stood before him in a half circle.
One among them spoke.
"Tell us where your master has gone and we shal-"
"..." The ripple put them all on edge.
"You can't hope to defeat us...you are clearly outnumbered...outmatched."
That sneer...that highborn sneer....he would die the worst for it.

One by one they ignited their sabers, blue and greens, yellow and violets, silhouetting their faces.
Slowly, ever so carefully he took his right hand from beneath his robes and grabbed at his left shoulder. The cloak went off with a twist and in that movement, the dance began. Oh be sure it was a dance, an orchestra, the music of the spears. Ma'Thael, the Tempest unhooked eight light sabers and ignited them all at once.
The sheer hum alone caused two of them to flinch.

The storm began...

- - -

She was choking on her own blood.
Ma'Thael held her in his left hand about the throat, holding her with one arm as he faced the last of the Jedi.
The man...with his sneering face...still lived. Well, Ma'Thael did give his word to the girl...
He tossed her to the floor and threw her into the wall before focusing his wrath on the Jedi. Eight blades came in, their pattern reflecting off the gleam in Ma'Thaels eyes. He picked him up with a simple movement...then snapped the man's elbows, knees, ribs, and collar bone with a cruel gesture. The Jedi cried out, blood gurgling past his teeth. Ma'Thael lowered the man to the floor and held him by the lower jaw.

"You...will not die by my hand...you are not worthy..."
He grasped him by his shattered collar bone and dragged him a few feet to the edge before casting him over.
"...think upon your sins." he muttered before turning his attention to the traitorous girl. He brought her over with a gesture of his hand. She slid across the floor, coming to a rest by his boots.
Ma'Thael lifted her up with his right hand, took one last good look at her beautiful face and let her embrace oblivion.

Her body fell into pieces as his sabers powered down and returned to their harness.
Sith he might be....but he was still a man of his word.

Nightmares...no dreamscapes...

Post by Kaome Sky Deathand » Sun Jul 12, 2009 2:09 am

I've had this nightmare...oh for a good few years now...
It's set in the future, think 'Alien' and you've got the setting.

It always begins the same way. I'm in the rear cargo room of the 'Argonaught' (Thats how its spelled) working on a fusion dilation box. (for no reason apparently) I am armored up to my neck. This suit is thick, not bulky, but looks imposing. It is comprised of several overlapping plates on the chest, a wide brim collar, and segmented leggings. My boots go to my knees. My arms are wrapped in what looks like black steel with gloves to finish it off, a strange metal that bends with ease and can follow the slightest movement of my hands. This I recall easily enough...I can see myself working with fine tools. The view of the dream changes, much like a movie would. There are segments from my eyes and over my shoulder (head and back in view) as well as from across the room (when I stand of gesture) or even once or twice from my friends. Ah yes, I am not alone in the dark. There are several friends, for their sake they will not be named, but let me number them. 1-5. 1 and 2 (both male) are standing over me laughing. I remember this because it sounded forced, hallow, like they knew what was going to happen. 3 and 4 (both girls) are talking about me not far off. The dream switches to 'their view' for a moment. If you must know, 3 wants to know how 'big' I am and 4 says its 'how I use it'. I have never had relations with either of them. 5 (a male) always has the same look of shock on his face. I wince every time now in that dream, for I know what he is going to say before he says it. In truth I know a lot of things...but lets not get ahead of ourselves. 5 says loud enough for everyone to hear. "Contact, 30 meters and closing fast!" Apparently I am in charge, three red stripes across my shoulder boards. I stand and nod to 2. 2 reaches over to a locker and passes out the weapons. If you have seen 'Deep Rising' thats it right there. The Chinese M1-L1 triple-pulse assault rifle. (Auto-cooling, watertight!) Only recently have I noticed I'm the only one that has ever had a sidearm. It looks like a cross between a revolver and a shotgun. Its compact, six shots, two barrels, revolving chamber, red-light, grip. The works my friends.

-This is the first time I woke up-

Some time passed....I dream again.
Recall the above events.
Now however, as we exit the cargo room; I make sweeping motions with my hands and everyone moves out.

-This is the first time I die-

I was struck with a sharp pain in my back and it punctured my chest.
I couldn't breathe. 3 and 4 shout my name. Gunfire as I fall to the floor. My eye twitches.

-I wake up sweating.-

I dream again.
Recall previous events.
As I exit and give motions, I point with my right hand at my eyes (Index and middle) and then to the ceiling. 5 nods and as he looks up he tries to scream. But you see, he can't the tail blade of something has so perfectly jammed itself down his throat. It is segmented, black, much like the alien tail from 'Aliens'. I sneer, 1 shouts 5s name. We all open fire and I can hear it scream. It is a mix between a 'coughing' monkey and an elephants trumpet. 5's body falls to the floor in a slump. The scene is VERY graphic...blood, brains, teeth...I can smell it, I can taste it.

We move out and 2 gingerly takes 5's scanner. We move through passages, lit from below with smoke and red, like a fire we don't care about. It is not hot, but I am sweating all the same. A gout of steam, and I never see the thing that impales me in my face.

-I die again...I awake choking-

Time passes, I dream.
Recall previous events.
I begin to notice that no matter how long the dream is, its always one full nights fitful sleep.
I duck the incoming object. It's a pipe that has been sheared off and thrown like a missile. It smacks itself into 1's gut. He is winded (big guy, 1) but unhurt. we move forward and thats when those damn sirens start. The 'ANH ANH ANH' flashing red lights, etc. Same thing over and over and over. "Self-Destruct sequence, engaged you have ten minutes to evacuate." I ask 2 where the pod is. Only one left, at the bridge...on the other side of the ship. We start running. As we enter a large cargo room 3 is taken from behind. Hers is the worst I think. It's mocking. She is slashed open, then her clothes and armor is shredded, then she looks at me and says: "Do you like me now?" She is grinning, naked, covered in blood. It haunts me every time I look at her when she smiles that way for a moment. I turn to go through a door and have my heart ripped out of my chest by a clawed hand. I have never seen what the beast is, but it is lightning quick. I move three steps before I figure it out.

-Another defeat...I recall waking up and getting sick-

I dream again, mind you this isn't night after night, there are weeks in between each 'take'
Recall previous events, however, as we enter the large cargo room where 3 will die, I am gifted one more pain. My sister (10 almost) is in a gray shift and reaching out for me. I pick her up after muttering her name in question. 4 ushers me on. "Pick her up and MOVE!"
-3 dies-
Now however, I must open the door. 1 and 2 are shooting at the other end. I can't spare a glance. I hand my sis to 4 and find to my delight I have a spot welder on hand. I cut open the shut door (which i had recalled being open) and as I stand up, the damn thing reaches from the ceiling on the other side of the door and swipes my head clean off. Blood spurt and everything.

-It's like a bad video game now...I wake up sweating as usual-

I dream again.
Recall previous events, except this time, we all have helmets.
It's as if I take my past knowledge and 'change' things to my favor.
Fat good it does me.
I open the door, epic lunge through and open up on the ceiling. Except, nothing is there. I take my sis from 4, and turn to see 2 cut down by a blade. There is an arm, but the rest is fuzzy, like a smoke or mist. 1 closes the door and welds it shut. The alarm is still going, except it seems permanently stuck on 'ten'. We continue through the ship, the chow hall now, food everywhere....but no people. Not another single soul. We cross without a problem, but as we leave the kitchen explodes. Now we can't go back. We turn a corner and my mother is there, looking very much like 'Ripley' and kicking an 'Alien' in the head. It's not what was hunting us, it was too small. She smiles and kisses my faceplate, glad to see I'm alive. 1s death cry is our only alarm. By some stroke of luck, there is a pod behind my mother. I manage to shove everyone else in and slam it off. I can see 4's face clearly. She is screaming. Probably because some tentacle thing punched through my helmet and splattered my teeth and brains all over the window.

-Lovely yeah?-

I dream again.
Recall past events.
This time I duck, but nothing is there to dodge. 1s body is gone.
The bridge is almost in my reach. I open the door and find the captain (some older gentleman I have never laid eyes on) looking at pr0n on his computer. He's grinning like an idiot. Upon closer inspection I see hes a robot and shoot him to pieces.
BIG MISTAKE. He explodes in a fit of rage and becomes my next ticket into wake up call and shrapnel rips my eyes apart.

-Last time?-

Recall all previous events.
Except I am alone on the bridge, and the damn alarm finally works.
It tells me I have one minute.
There is an electronic lock on the pod.
I can't figure it out.
The ship explodes as I cry out in tears and frustration.

I have died this way four times now. ~April 23rd, 2008.

Now...as then...I am haunted by this dream.
As I turn to look behind me my fingers dance over the numbers...
The hatch slides apart...and as I turn my head, someone I know but have never met blows my face apart.

I've died twice this way now...
It is a pain you cannot imagine.
