Year 4, Post-Apocalypse

It has been four years since the beginning of the apocalypse. When it first started, everyone thought it would wear off over time, but yet it kept growing. It never ended, and here we are, a fraction of our starting numbers left. Humanity is slowly being consumed by their fall from grace in the eyes of Pokémon worldwide, and at this point in time, all of the continents have been hit hard. The riots have spread far and wide, and there's little hope for changing the tide of this war. We are losing.

The last of our civilizations are under constant bombardment. I will detail for the reader's understanding our cities - or what's left of them, so that you may be better prepared for what's to come.

  • Image Haven
This is our furthest outpost into the wilderness. It is, unfortunately, in a position that makes defense a true challenge, and we do not suspect it to last much longer. We are using it as a staging ground to eliminate several of the lesser feral masses and keep them out of our hair elsewhere. The only reason it is presently surviving is because the best of our trainers are located here.
  • Image New Terra City
This is one of our more reliable cities. Placed in the treetops of a deep forest, it is both well-defended and very well-positioned. Many of the gym leaders prior to the apocalypse have collected here, attempting to lash out and strike back at the Pokémon hordes. Grass types, poison types, bug types, and smaller flying types excel here, while others tend to get stuck and bogged down easily. This makes defending the location very easy. The dark Pokémon feral mass across the river ventures over and attacks every so often, but their heaviest hitters can't reach us and the ones that can are easily dispatched. It is quite clear that they've become discouraged as of late, so the base has been growing significantly and successfully in these dark times.
  • Image Whitecrush City
Formerly known as Bayside City, it is the last city from before the apocalypse that still stands in its original form. The ferals surrounding the island are more or less incapable of surviving on land and furthermore tend to only attack things that enter their waters. For this reason, island-hopping has become the favorable means to enter the city. It's defenses are rather poor, but there are a few trainers that reside in the city permanently who I would dare not cross myself. It is as close to a normal city as we can muster in this day and age. The island it rests upon has a snowy peak at its center and is surrounded by tropical lands. The Pokémon here have mostly been raised by the people of the city, meaning that wandering the forest on the island doesn't spell disaster for travelers. It is as if this island, somehow miraculously, has eluded the apocalypse entirely. Living here, however wonderful, is a lie. Our world is not what this city makes us think it is. Not anymore.
  • Image Minewall City
Minewall City, once a deep mine, has been converted into a city since the apocalypse. Its entrance is hidden inside of a forest very effectively, requiring Pokémon with a keen eye to see, of which the forest possesses none. In light of this, only certain trainers - those prepared to enter the city - can enter. As a result of this, it has avoided siege from Pokémon of the surrounding areas very effectively, despite being in such close proximity to the precipice. Since the apocalypse, it has been further tunneled out by the talented ground and rock-type Pokémon of the trainers located there. It is mostly an industrial city, harboring steel, ground, rock, and electric Pokémon more than others, but the many travelers it sees bring an assortment of their own types to play. It is an excellent staging ground for attacks made against the most dangerous feral mass we've yet encountered - the shattered precipice mass, also known as the red mass.
  • Image The Island
The Island is perhaps the most inspiring story of the entire post-apocalyptic world. It is located dead-center in what we call the blue feral mass. This mass, as I will explain later, is extremely ferocious and would most certainly destroy entire sections of the continent were The Island to fall. Originally a military city located on the island by a name long-since given up, it was fortified heavily by steel and electric Pokémon trainers and turned into a veritable fortress. With walls several meters thick and energy barriers powered by Magneton and Magnezone, the blue mass has been as-of-yet unable to breach the city and take it. The result of this is an isolated, yet self-sufficient, city that has been invaluable in stemming the blue mass's onslaught across the seas. Reaching The Island is a dangerous task, but necessary every so often - especially to stage return attacks against the blue mass.

Many once-cities were eliminated during the apocalypse or shortly thereafter. With these locations being impossible to defend and unprepared for war, the best trainers there left for the more sustainable cities and abandoned the towns to the encroaching masses. These ruins are mostly devastated fragments of what they once were, but some of them have remains worth investigating. The ruins of any substance remaining have been cataloged for the reader's knowledge below. Note that not all ruins are listed, as many were firewashed from existence entirely by the feral masses. It's sad to imagine that the once-great land of Karud has been reduced to so little
  • Image Djatyr Ruins
Djatyr was the city at the base of the Precipice, the peak upon which the elite four's fortress and headquarters once stood. Now an empty castle, presumably inhabited by the red feral mass alpha leaders - the deadliest Pokémon in Karud - the Precipice looms over the ruins of Djatyr menacingly. The fog surrounding the peak engulfs the city, so it is impossible to know exactly how much of it is really left, if any at all. We mark it simply because it was once home to the most powerful of the powerful - trainers known worldwide as the best of the best. It was believed that even the many-time champion himself, Ash Ketchum, was in the area preparing to move on the Karud Elite Four. That he could not ravage them as he did many other leagues is an amazement on its own.
  • Image Cascade's Fall
Cascade's Fall, once known as the city of Cascade Falls, is the ruin of a city that stands on top of a cliffside waterfall. The city was well-positioned, but poorly defended. For whatever reason, the blue feral mass land-based Pokémon did not utterly obliterate the city, but instead left it standing almost entirely intact. It is presumed to be totally uninhabited by people, so it is likely housing many feral Pokémon instead. Little else is known about the area, as it is in such a position that moving on it might be a mortal mistake and trap.
  • Image Faire Ruins
A smaller city in a poor location overrun at a very early stage by the feral Pokémon before they had even formed into packs, Faire's ruins stand near the Crater and a lake, but are otherwise of no real note. They've been ransacked by the desert bandits and mercenaries, so there is little left there that can be used at all besides shelter, if even that is left.
  • Image Antem Ruins
Antem suffered a similar fate to Faire, being poorly positioned and eliminated early on. Antem was obliterated almost immediately as the feral masses spread outward from the Precipice. There is, as with Faire, very little left in any form in the ruins besides a place to hide from the rain.
  • Image Wrest
  • Image Earst
Wrest and Earst were once part of their own city before the surrounding area had been completely turned into a desert post-apocalypse. Once a lush forested city, Wrestearst City was home to one of Karud's most respected gyms and largest populations. As the forest was gradually consumed by ground and rock Pokémon who cared not for the trees, the city was sundered in two. In less than 2 years of time, the entire forest was wiped out and replaced by the dead desert that is now located there. The only two parts of the city left remotely intact have been named as the Wrest and Earst ruins, in honor of the city that they were once a part of. It is believed that the gym leader of the town has since become a desert bandit and roams the area, defending it from the green feral mass located there. His location is otherwise unknown to us.

Monuments or locations of note have been marked upon the map for the reader's edification. I will provide a basic explanation of the location and its significance below. Some locations are parts of ruins that have survived the elements and assaults upon them. They have either been completely inhabited by feral Pokémon or completely abandoned for reasons unknown. We have been meaning to explore these locations since the apocalypse, but other, more-pressing, matters have come up and hindered that goal. It is worth noting that the feral masses almost exclusively avoid these monuments for some reason.
  • Image The Precipice
The Precipice, as mentioned previously, is a spiral mountain peak atop which stands the elite four's castle, their once-headquarters. Now all but deserted, except for what we believe are the red feral mass's alpha Pokémon, this monument stands above the rest of the landscape ominously. It is worth noting that much of the staircase that leads up to the Precipice is intact, as our flying-trainer scouts report. Many flying-type Pokémon of note have set up nests on the cliffsides, though, making travel to the top by any means impossible for us at present.
  • Image Widow's Peak
Widow's Peak is the highest peak in all of Karud, reaching heights bin clouds above the peak that never part. It is unknown what resides there, as initial scouting into the area has been met with no resistance. At all. It is very interesting that no Pokémon at all would go there for some reason. We have made the assertion beyond initial scouting that if the feral masses do not go there, we probably should not either. Maybe at some point we will use this fact to establish an outpost there.
  • Image Razorback Peak
Razorback Peak has been presumably unaffected by the apocalypse. It is home to all dragon-type Pokémon in Karud, from the mighty Dragonite to the deadly Salamence. No feral Pokémon attempt to enter or harass the dragons, as their power is unquestionable. It is worth noting that a single Garchomp has been noticed leaving and entering the mountain, as though performing some act and then returning. We are not sure what this might entail, but we fear the worst.
  • Image Inquill Temple
Karud mostly lacks icy and snowy areas, sans the mountain peaks and ranges. Inquill Temple is located in the middle of the only snow-covered valley in all of Karud, just south of the Precipice. We have no clue what the status of the temple is since the apocalypse, as any scouting attempts into the area have been met with great resistance from the mountaintop ice ferals.
  • Image Rowak Catacombs
Rowak Catacombs were once part of Rowak City prior to the apocalypse. The city has been consumed utterly and completely by the apocalypse, with virtually nothing remaining at all. However, it seems that the catacombs and the cathedrals underneath which they are located have remained intact. We have not yet ventured forth into them to find out why, if there is any reason at all.
  • Image Blister's Gorge
Blister's Gorge is a crack in the crust of Karud where the orange feral mass resides. All sorts of prehistoric Pokémon have made the gorge their home since the days of the apocalypse's beginning. It would appear that, fortunately, the ferals never leave the canyon system at all. All is not well, though, as the gorge is the only part of that area leaving the desert not patrolled by the yellow flying mass. It is for this reason that most travel out of Haven has been over the ocean, though in recent days this has been hampered by an increase in water ferals therein found.
  • Image Devil's Maw
Devil's Maw, just south of Haven, is an active volcano. We have no idea what is in the volcano, if anything, as we've been too preoccupied with attacks from the desert to send scouting parties to investigate. We intend to do this, however, as soon as possible. We suspect that perhaps a Heatran resides at the center of this volcano, which could be a great boon if we were to somehow master it.
  • Image Regigigas
Unmarked on the map, the location of the ancient Pokémon, Regigigas, is known. Regigigas towers well-above mountains, which is perhaps the only reason we know where it is at all. It stands, unmoving, on the peninsula due east of Minewall City. No one has dared move closer to investigate, as the possibility of arousing it and causing it to rampage are too great.

The feral masses are groups of Pokémon that have come together under feral pack leaders and have made coordinated attacks against us since the apocalypse.
  • Image Black Mass
    Leader(s): Image
The black mass, spread across the southern area of Karud, is split into two parts. We have noticed in our travels about New Terra City that this mass is comprised mostly of dark and ghost Pokémon. During the daytime, these Pokémon hide inside the forests around the little ocean inlet, and at night they venture forth and hunt humans in the area. Inside the forests and under cover, there is little light, and this seems to be enough for them to function. All of the Pokémon in this mass seem very averse to encounters with light, so carrying flashlights seems to be good enough to fend off most of the weaker members. We have a documented encounter with what we believe to be the pack leader as well. It is a Sableye, which is odd, but nonetheless assumed to be very dangerous. Our only indication that it is the pack leader is the great intelligence it displayed at one point, ordering other members of its group around during an attack upon New Terra City.
  • Image Purple Mass
    Leader(s): ???
The purple mass is an elusive mass that seems to travel all across Karud and never stays in one place. It is only identifiable by large groups of psychic Pokémon, along with assorted other Pokémon. It is also unique in that it seems to be the only feral mass where smaller Pokémon can survive, such as Pikachu or Bidoof. These weaker Pokémon don't appear to fight, but are strangely protected by the stronger psychic types. It is unknown what their role in the mass is, if any. The leader of this pack is also currently unidentified. The entire mass acts with purpose and as a collective, but there is no distinct issuer of orders that we can pick out. The mass is incredibly hostile at times, and at other times entirely docile. What drives the pack is unknown, but exercising extreme caution around it is important either way.
  • Image Blue Mass
    Leader(s): Image (Red)
The blue feral mass, centered at the bay in the northeast of Karud, is the largest of all of the masses. The mass consists of water-type Pokémon almost exclusively, and makes constant and coordinated assaults upon the Island. They are extremely aggressive and will attack any waterborne vessel or Pokémon not of the pack. The blue mass also appears to be incredibly proficient in siege attacks, being able to propel boulders, water, and other projectiles long distances to strike at their foes. Also, being that the water located there is so deep, it is nearly impossible to retaliate as they can simply dive in order to avoid attacks. Electric Pokémon seem to be the most competent at dispatching them, being able to electrocute entire sections of the water at a time to eliminate them. This seems to be the only way to get to the Island, although caution must be taken to avoid the sieges. The leader of the blue mass has been observed to be a red Gyarados, one of the most ferocious Pokémon ever encountered. It rampages throughout the waters, and if it is encountered, the recommended course of action is to somehow distract it - either with a Pokémon as bait or a person - and escape. Many good people and Pokémon alike have been lost to its ravenous and destructive assaults.
  • Image Green Mass
    Leader(s): ???
The green feral mass is the most recently developed and formed of the feral masses. Originally, the Pokémon of the desert outside of Haven were unorganized, but recently they have come together and have been making attacks upon our caravans. This is an immediate threat, and one that will have to be addressed at once or we risk losing the city and control of that area. It is unknown what the leader of the pack is, but it must have entered the area recently and started commanding the other Pokémon. It is noted that the sandstorms in the desert have become more frequent lately, perhaps to obscure the identity of the pack leader from us. This pack is composed mostly of rock and ground type Pokémon, which makes them incredibly resistant to attacks and very potent at attacking. What's worse is that we lack a lot of the capacity to fight back inside of the sandstorms they create, which gives them the constant advantage. We will have to come up with something if we are to stop this mass and save Haven.
  • Image Yellow Mass
    Leader(s): Image (Not Verified)
The yellow mass is a constantly migrating mass of flying-type Pokémon that roam the entirety of Karud. The mass as a whole tends to avoid the other masses' territories and spend most of their time in the center of the island around the crater. They spend most of their time harassing caravans and groups of travelers that attempt to reach one part of the island from the other through the middle of Karud. The yellow mass is extremely competent at hit and run tactics and staying hidden when they need to be. There also appears to be constant sunlight around the members of the mass, which is what lead us to the discovery of the yellow mass's pack leader. It appears, in our observations, that the only possible candidate for the mass's leader is a Ho-oh, an incredibly dangerous fire and flying Pokémon. If we are to make any advances upon this mass in order to destroy and/or stop it, we will need to be very wary of this legendary creature.
  • Image Orange Mass
    Leader(s): Image
The orange feral mass is focused entirely and exclusively at Blister's Gorge. The pack consists exclusively of prehistoric Pokémon, including Kabutops, Omastar, Cradilly, and Aerodactyl. Their tactics include guerrilla warfare most of the time, popping out of the sand and parts of the canyon to surprise their prey. One of their primary tactics is to attempt to knock travelers off of the bridges that connect land islands over the crevices. What makes it worse is that there tends to be high winds here, so falling off is even more likely. This mass could otherwise be avoided if it weren't the best mode of crossing the center of Karud to reach the other cities, such as New Terra and Whitecrush. The leader of this pack has been observed to be an extremely large and ancient Armaldo. This creature, clocked in at roughly 24', has huge reaping claws on its arm that let it scale the canyon walls with relative ease. It has been the end of many travelers through the area, and extreme caution must be displayed when he rears his nasty head in combat.
  • Image Red Mass
    Leader(s): ???
The red feral mass was the first of the feral masses to form, presumably made by the remaining Pokémon of the elite four. It is also the single, most-threatening of all of the feral masses. It is extremely aggressive, moves to slaughter any and all trainers in many areas of Karud in night and day. It is also the most varied of the feral masses, including the most dangerous Pokémon of almost all possible types. It spends most of its time centered on the Precipice and the ruins of Djatyr, the elite four's city. The leaders are unknown because there are suspected to be more than one and because the mass is so diverse and tiered in its organization that the true leaders cannot be discerned from 'squad' leaders. Its organization and coordination is the most perfected of all of the masses and the most caution must be taken when encroaching on their squads. Their type diversity, raw strength, and tactics are unparalleled in all of Karud's masses.
