??? Challenge #3

There was this movie I saw once.
Absolutely enjoyed it.

There was a nerdy kid trying to get with the school hottie (of course) and sought help from outside sources.
A book, that had a hideous man with a bombshell girl.
The ghost (memory that was visual?) of his grandfather past who was Italian and waited beneath the window of the woman he loved until she loved him.
A friend who had a decidedly overzealous habit of 'chokin' the chicken'

The boy slept first on the lawn beneath her window...
Helped her sneak out by catching her as she jumped from her balcony.
Then on the sidewalk (can't remember why)

Her father brought him breakfast on a silver tray after showing him a good 'tip' from the book.
The Ghostly Grandfather said DO NOT FORGET TO REMOVE YOUR SOCKS!
The friend got zapped in the bathtub in a failed 'experiment'
There was a 'Cougar' that was attracted and made 'moves' against our nerdy hero.

For the life of me I cannot recall this film but I have a sudden desire to watch it again.
Go forth...help me find this nugget of filming fortune.

Yes, because my room mate has seen it as well.
....he doesn't remember it either.
We spent an hour discussing it two nights ago.

It has to. I've seen it before, too. Just can't remember the name.

A few minor details are off, though, if I recall correctly.

Yeah, but I don't remember the italian ghost thing. You sure it was a ghost?

I think it was just him (the "nerd") imagining it. I remember he always pictured his ancestor in a black and white (or was it sepia?) world, typical old-fashioned stuff going on in the background.

Aye.
The grandfather was always 'young looking in sepia'

I don't think that's it.
I don't recall the son of Porkins and a slackjaw look.

We could try the expert process, it is usually extremely effective at solving problems like this.

What decade was the movie made from? Select multiple to indicate a range of possibility.

* 60s
* 70s
* 80s
* 90s

edit: Eight days a week

plot

Peter loves his next door neighbor Erica and, on the advice of his grandfather, decides to camp out on her front lawn for the entire summer, or until she agrees to go out with him. His father is none too happy about the idea and refuses to let his son back in the house, even to get a change of clothes. Peter's friend, Matt, thinks Peter should give up on women (like he has) and just have sex with fruit, and have a total devotion to masturbation.
